About Us
Established in 2014, Sunbird Trust is a non-religious, apolitical, not-for-profit organisation committed to building peace through education in the remote and conflict-affected regions of Northeast India. Guided by its motto, Peace Through Education, the organisation works to ensure that children in underserved communities have access to quality education and opportunities to thrive.
Sunbird facilitates both physical and financial access to education by building schools and hostels, strengthening educational institutions, and providing child sponsorships for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Beyond education, the organisation partners with local communities to promote sustainable livelihoods, strengthen community resilience, and foster peace and social cohesion. By creating meaningful connections between communities in the Northeast and the rest of India, Sunbird contributes to greater understanding, trust, and national integration.
Today, Sunbird Trust works across six states in Northeast India and supports the education of more than 11,000 children, reaching some of the country’s most remote and underserved villages. Through long-term partnerships with communities, governments, schools, and supporters, the organisation continues to create pathways for children and young people to build brighter futures while contributing to a more peaceful and equitable society.
