Socio – Economic Development Organization (SEDO)

About Us

Socio Economic Development Organisation (SEDO) is a voluntary organisation established on 9 February 2002 with the vision of building a healthy and self-reliant society. It was initiated by a group of socially committed youth from Dhemaji with a focus on addressing poverty, unemployment, recurring floods, inadequate healthcare and limited livelihood opportunities in the region.

SEDO initially began its work through Self-Help Group promotion, agricultural livelihood and awareness programmes. Over the years, the organisation expanded its interventions into disaster risk reduction, health and community development, education and child development, mental healthcare, environmental protection, WASH, women and adolescent development, livelihood promotion and community resilience.

The organisation has primarily worked across Dhemaji district of Assam, reaching rural and vulnerable communities through partnerships with government departments, development organisations, foundations, educational institutions and community-based organisations.

In 2018, SEDO was registered as a charitable trust and subsequently expanded its institutional and programme partnerships. In FY 2025–26, SEDO implemented five major ongoing programmes covering Child Development, Mental Health, Livelihood Development, Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights, and Solid Waste Management, reaching more than 6,700 beneficiaries. SEDO is currently commemorating 25 years of community service (2002–2027).
