KABIL

About Us

KABIL was registered in 2012, marking the beginning of its institutional journey in Assam. From its early years, the organization has worked closely with rural and vulnerable communities, with a focus on strengthening community institutions, promoting livelihoods, and enabling people to access and leverage public programmes and resources.
Between 2013 and 2018, KABIL supported government-led development initiatives, including the Northeast Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) and State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs). This period helped the organization build its experience in community institution building, livelihood promotion, and working at scale with rural communities.
In 2018, KABIL further sharpened its focus on women-led community institutions, livelihood promotion, and Natural Resource Management (NRM) and established field operations in Udalguri, Assam. This marked an important shift towards deeper, locally rooted engagement and a stronger understanding of the livelihood and natural resource challenges faced by rural communities in the region.
From 2019 onwards, KABIL deepened its grassroots engagement and strengthened its expertise in convergence with government programmes and schemes, particularly MGNREGS and other livelihood-related initiatives. The organization increasingly focused on helping communities translate public resources and schemes into productive livelihood and community assets.
Since 2022, KABIL has further consolidated its work in Udalguri District, with a focus on Natural Resource Management, livelihood promotion, and strengthening community institutions. Its work has increasingly integrated community knowledge, livelihood diversification, and government convergence to respond to the interconnected challenges faced by vulnerable households.
KABIL is entering a new phase of institutional development. Building on more than a decade of grassroots experience, the organization is working to strengthen its locally rooted team, systems, and organizational capabilities, while transitioning from a predominantly project-based approach towards a more integrated, long-term programme approach. KABIL’s continuing vision is to empower people, strengthen communities, and contribute to sustainable and dignified rural livelihoods in Northeast India.
