About Us
| The history of the Amri Karbi Community Development Project (AKCDP) dates back to 1975, when a group of Karbi students from Guwahati, Dimoria, and the surrounding areas of Kamrup formed the Kamrup Karbi Students’ Association to work for the welfare of Karbi students. During their activities, they realized that the Karbi community living in Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, and neighbouring areas did not enjoy the same constitutional and developmental benefits as the Karbi people of Karbi Anglong, which is an Autonomous District. To address these issues, they initiated a community movement. Since the name “Karbi” was already associated with the existing autonomous district, the community adopted the name Amri Karbi, one of the three major Karbi clans—Chingthong, Ronghang, and Amri. The Amri clan is predominantly found in Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, and Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya.…
